Dokter Gigi

When you move to anywhere new, there are three things that must be sorted. The doctor was needed almost as soon as we arrived, and that worked out well. About six weeks later, it was becoming apparent that a hairdresser had to be found fairly quickly, and recommendation took me Nelly up the road. She is cheap, very cheerful and I am very happy with her cutting and the salon. Number two ticked off.

Yesterday an errant peanut caused a tooth crunch. I didn't know what was exactly wrong but it felt like the tooth had broken. Whatever it was needed to be dealt with sooner rather than later. There are plenty of signs around proclaiming 'Dokter Gigi' but even more than a doctor or a hairdresser, a dentist really needs to be recommended. Unfortunately, everyone we asked in the short space of time we had goes to a dentist in Denpasar or Sanur, and I really was hoping for local. So I turned to the forum, and the consistent recommendation was Sayan Clinic, even for non-cosmetic work. Great, just around the corner (more or less) at the Mansion Resort in Penestanan. So instead of hitting the road with our new wheels, we hit the clinic.

Sayan Clinic was just as the forums had described. Clean, good technology, great English, and cheap enough not to have to trouble the travel insurance. Not a broken tooth, but a dislodged filling that needed to be replaced and all good now. Number three completed.

So today we did a proper road test. To Gianyar, Semarapura (Klunkung) and down to the coast - Padangbai and Candidasa. The car performed like a dream, the sat nav got us out of a sticky spot in the mountains and the traffic wasn't too horrendous (except in Candidasa where the one road through is full of trucks and very, very noisy). But that's another story for another time.
